Turbo on my Focus Mk 2 2005

Featured Replies

Hi all, Been told my Turbo is on the way out, but maybe I can get away with just replacing the Turbo core.

Would like to know your thoughts on this, do I take the chance, or replace the whole thing,

Thanks all

Which engine?

If it's a 1.6 TDCI the turbos on those usually fail due to carbon deposits in the oil ways.

Requires much more than just the turbo and may not be financially viable on a car if this age.

Yes, it is the TDCI, runs nice until you floor the throttle

1.6 TDCI? Not 1.8 or 2.0 TDCI?

If it is 1.6 then is it 90bhp or 110bhp? They use different types of turbo so you will need the correct type if you do choose to repair.

Its a 1.6 110hp, so yes, its just about which way to go, complete turbo, or turbo core.

In that case it is VNT type. I would recommend a complete turbo replacement as the VNT mech is likely to be wearing out as well as the turbine shaft bearing.
