2016 focus st diesel battery change

Featured Replies

Morning people. Replaced the battery on my 2016 st diesel, plugged forscan in to reset the bms & now flagging up with can’t communicate with ecm. Will it have blown a fuse when connecting the new battery up? The car has been sat dead for a while or could it be a dud battery? Tia

Don't need Forscan to reset the BMS.

Does the engine start now?

I am expecting that FORSCAN cannot communicate ith the ECM. I wouldn't reset the BMS just yet, I would try to get the car started first. As Tomsfocus says, you do not need FORSCAN to do this. Does it turn over? if not, disconnect the battery, clean the terminals and refit them good and tight. If you have a meter, you can see if there is a decent voltage on the battery and if it dips when the key is turned or button pushed, depending on what your car uses.

Let us know how you get on.

If the car has been dead for a while and you're confident that the replacement battery is good:

Disconnect the negative cable again and leave for 10 minutes

Connect the neg cable and don't do anything for 10 minutes

Turn ignition on and connect FORScan

Clear DTCs and try to start

Much appreciated for the help guys. Turned out to be the C90 plug🤦‍♂️ clearly didn’t push it back in properly, disconnected and put back in and sorted it straight out.
