Windscreen washers blocked? (Mk III)

Featured Replies

All of the washer jets have just been getting weaker and weaker. At the front they now scarcely reach the bottom of the screen. I suppose it's possible that all three are getting blocked up at the same time, but is there a possible common factor? Something that could be blocked up at the pump and therefore affect everything.

Thanks.

Yes. There's a rubber filter over the pump inlet. That gets blocked with sludge if you mix screenwash types or dilute it too much.

Thanks. You wouldn't be able to give a rough description of how to reach it could you?

Just peel back the wheel arch liner in front of the drivers side front wheel. The pump is right there.

Thanks.

Stick a pack of steradent tablets in the bottle and leave it over night, then run it through the front and rear jets

That'll sort it

Thanks. Sorted now, although for a moment I thought my next question would be "What's the best way to get the rubber filter out if I accidentally push it into the tank"
