What is this pipe called and part number?

Featured Replies

Hi there. What is this pipe called and what is the part number please? Noticed a bit of oily residue around it, is it important? And does it come with the clamps ?

Also, second one while I am here. I know this might be too vague, but whilst changing the vaporiser unit, I noticed it was quite oily down there. Almost nothing can be seen from above, or requires air box removal and battery box to get a clear view. What is the most likely cause of a leak on this side? Some has made it on the exhaust heat shield, but it isn’t stinking and smoking that i noticed.

It’s enough to cover your hand in it, but nothing I can see on the drive or under tray thanks.

That's the crankcase oil breather hose. They all leak eventually but it doesn't really matter on a diesel. Rarely replaced, but surprisingly cheap from Ford.

Oil leak on the flywheel end of this engine is usually from the fuel pump gasket. Pump is driven from the end of the rear camshaft. Not worth repairing while it's only a small leak.

Thank you mate. I did try searching

Is it a similar design to the MK5 mondeos on the HP fuel pump gasket? I heard there were 15K milers of those with the issue, it’s got crush sections on a sheet gasket. Apparently even new ones soon leak after replacement even.

So as long as the car has got oil in it, and it’s not a puddle, we can assume it’s got sufficient oil reaching it?

Have you got a good source of diagrams for this engine? -so I can keep you out of my full time employment lol

Also, is the Haynes any good? (Actually, I can’t find one that covers the 2.0 diesel models)

Much appreciated Tom

Yes it's the same engine in Mondeo and other Fords of this era. That type of gasket was never going to be effective long term lol. I really wouldn't worry about a bit of oil 'weeping' on a 12 year old car, most engines leak somewhere eventually. Only a problem if you can smell it in the cabin or if the leak is bad enough to pool on the floor and lose a noticeable amount from the dipstick.

The two parts catalogues I use for a Mk3.5 are Ford | Parts Catalogs | PartSouq and Ford - Catcar.info . Both have good and bad points so if one doesn't work for you, try the other one.

Haynes wasn't any good for the Mk2 Focus so I never bought another one for anything newer. Can always find what I need online eventually. Only thing that's difficult to find online reliably is torque figures for nuts and bolts. I would want to ask a reliable source directly for those. There are one or two on here still fortunately.
