BCM issues

Featured Replies

Hi. Need help. BCM seems to be playing up. Car starts and runs. When turned off no interior lights work, indicators not working, hazards not working. When start car up headlights and rear lights come on even when turned off.

Earth issue?

How long have you had the car and how long have you had the problem? if the car has automatic lighting on dull days it will switch on the lights. Hazards should work with the car switched off, Interior lights might be turned off in a menu and the indicators do not work with the car switched off. Do all these functions work with the car switched on? I think this looks like a fuse in the always on supply and I need some convincing that it is a dud BCM.

Describe the issue in a bit more detail

BCM/GEM connections can suffer from water ingress - unplugging them and checking for corrosion on the BCM and connector pins may help understand the problem better

I need some convincing as well as don't believe it is. No hazards and indicators don't work while car turned off. Had car 2 years but wasn't driven for a while. It's a 08 mark 7 Fiesta so no auto lights etc. Replaced the low profile BCM 30amp fues with a standard as that worked and interior lights ect all came back on. Ran forscan to check everything and had a few error codes which cleared. Backed BCM up incase needed to be replaced. Turned car off and back on and all went off again. Tried reset as instructed checked connections on BCM area no damp or water. Tried locating earth points for body but found one that's intact. Albit only have 3 wires connected. Can't locate any more.

Ok. So really dumb. How easy is it to unplug the connecters and is the any order to do it in?

Very easy to unplug, but the latches should all be intact.

If they're not, ensure the connectors can't work lose and disconnect, because they will.

Gently pull on each wire in each connector to make sure it's latched in the connector block properly.

Inspect the pins on the BCM ports to ensure: 1 - They're not broken/missing 2 - There's no bent pins.

Test every fuse, not just visually

Disconnect the battery negative cable for 10 minutes

Reconnect the battery negative then don't touch the car for 10 minutes

See if that cures it

Did you run a BCM self test using FORScan?

And give us the codes
