gear change noise

Featured Replies

first and 2 gear noisy on my ford focus 2009 1.6 petrol should I check the oil in gearbox

Noisy in gear? Or noisy selecting gears?

No harm in changing gear oil - especially if you can see any has leaked out past driveshaft seals. But realistically it's likely to be a mechanical fault inside the gearbox. Options are to have it repaired, fully rebuilt, or risk a good used one from a breakers yard.

Yes, changing the gear oil should be your first step. Make sure you get the correct spec for your box. And don't stint on quality - gearbox oil lasts long. If not Ford , then Castrol or similar. I had a Reverse gear that would occasionally spring out, not seating right. Oil change fixed it.
