Oil spec question and Pt Number question

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Could someone confirm for me if the mk3.5 1.5duratorq's proper oil spec is the Castrol MAGNATEC 0W-20 D or the Castrol MAGNATEC 0W-30 D?

I think its the Castrol MAGNATEC 0W-30 D from what the haynes manual and the castrol site are telling me but is there much difference between the two oil specs?

also I have noted down for the oil filter for same engine Ford PT No.1359941. Is this also the correct oil filter?

Is there an fuel filter to change as well or is it just a gauze filter in the tank itself like the Mk2 had?

Thanks

0W 30 has a higher viscosity, it is a " thicker" oil at operating temperature.

Last I saw it was 0w30 for 1.5 TDCI. But Ford do change the specs over time so handbooks can't always be relied upon. Best option is to contact a Ford parts dealer or check previous service receipts if you want to be completely sure.

Yes, that oil filter part number looks correct.

Diesels have a replaceable fuel filter on all models. Ford recommended interval every 3 years/37.5k miles on this engine, same as the air filter. There is a tank pump on the 1.5 TDCI so shouldn't be any problems priming after replacement. Just switch ignition on and off a few times until you hear the pump stop priming. Then it should start fine.

Thanks Tom,

Yeah I will order the 0w30 and that oil filter. Thank you also for the fuel filter link that will be very helpful.

Would you also have a link for an Air filtet or pt Number? I have a new one left over from my old mk2.3 1.6 zetec focus but not sure if its the same as I dont have a PT to compare. But online seraches them look like the same type (the cylinder style).
