General question

Im new too owning my mk8 Fiesta ST and i want too learn more about it. Ive had the car in the air today too inspect the underside of it, iam unsure of what part of the car this is. They are situated behind each front wheel, but i have also noticed rust and damage too it. Will it be anything too worry about.20260508_154549.jpg

Hi Joe,

Have you got another pic showing exactly where this is? Or can you describe the location more fully? Can't tell much from that shot.

NB as this is a specific question about a particular model it would have been better posted in the Fiesta section.

It's just across from the front jacking point. Most likely been jacked up there using a trolley jack or similar to cause those nicks out of the underseal.

I'm not sure of it's purpose though. Could just be adding extra strength to the chassis. Would be interesting to know whether it's only fitted to ST's or whether all Mk8's have it.

Thank you for the reply mate, i appreciate the info. Im just slightly worried due too it being part of the chassis if it will have any effect on my car.

Just the sort of shot I was looking for! Was trying to figure whether "behind the wheel" meant literally that or behind in the wheel arch/chassis,area, which it is. Just been scrolling through videos myself as its raining here!

(Just for fun popped the original pic into a couple of AIs - one said head gasket (!), the other heatshield which it does sort of resemble, to be fair, given the pic gave no indication of size/thickness or actual location.)

Doesn't look too bad but you can see how the jacking point is easily missed from the fuller picture you found.

We need a similar shot of a non-ST Mk 8 to compare but I'd guess its part of the extra stiffening in the ST set up.

Thank you mate i appreciate the reply and the info. Would you say that damage would be anything too be concerened about as its part of the chassis?

I can't see anything to worry about there. It's just a little surface rust where the underseal has been scraped away. If you're bothered by it, you could rub it down and paint some more underseal over it.

Thank you for the reply Eric, i put the picture into Ai too and it gave me similar answers, the main response k got was heat shield, all the worries me now is if it has causes extra damage too the chassis.

Just glancing at the Airtech site it seems the undertray is the same for ST and other models so no other Mk 8 pic.

They do an undertray for the Mk 7 ST and you can see the similar structure below.

Unless there is some major distortion which is not apparent from your pic, I agree with Tom.

Minor damage just happens, unfortunately. I've always been super careful to jack correctly at home, but previous owners might not have been, and then you've got roadside emergencies, garages, tyre fitters, etc!😀

Been having another look for an underside shot/video of non-ST Mk 8 but no luck so far.

Annoyingly only recently deleted the dealer service videos of the underside of my previous ST-L which might have showed this area!
