hi There, ave just recently bought a ford fiesta 1.4 titanium 58 plate. i have only had it a week & already the locking system is driving me crazy. when i lock the car using the buttons on the key it will not lock the boot.the only way the boot will lock is if i push the button on the drivers door & even then i have to leave the key in the house & go & check it is locked as it apparently only locks when you are away from the car.(I have the keyless entry system(surely it should work the same way this the buttons on the key?)Also the lights on the dash sometimes stays on for ages after i leave the car which means i keep having to run out to make sure it does goes off!I would love to hear from anyone that might be having the same problems or maybe i am doing something wrong. When i bought the car i was not told anything about the keyless entry just how to start the car using the power button.

The boot will automatically open as soon as the fob is near the car, that is all that is needed for the boot. When you walk away from the car the boot will automatically lock.

When the dashboard lights stay on is it when you have been out to the boot but not started the car?

if i open the door for any reason or after i have driven the car the dash lights & the information display stay on with a humming noise for quite some time.

I'll need to try & get used to the locking system,maybe i had left the fob to near the car when i kept trying the boot as i tried it agian with my fob in another room in the house & it was locked!I automatically always want to check that my car is locked so i'll just need to trust that it does what it's ment too!

Yes the keyless locking drove me mad when for quite a few weeks I would walk off with the key fob and make the other half stay with the car and check all the doors were locked they always were. Wait till you get used to keyless though and then try driving a hire car which I do regular. I have been known to sit staring at the dash wondering where the hell the power button is for minutes at a time before then fumbling around for the key.

The whole idea of the keyless go is that you don't need to use the key fob. Stick it in your pocket/handbag and just lock/unlock the car with the button on the door, pressing twice when locking to deadlock the doors. In over 18 months I don't think I've ever used the keyfob to lock or unlock the car, I mean, that is the point of keyless go. ;)

Well, this answers my query in this forum regarding the boot not locking. I find this a truly bizarre system. So I can stand at the car and lock everything but the boot? Why is that even necessary? I want to be sure the whole thing is locked up before I walk away. What is the benefit of this system? Every time I leave the car with something in the boot I’m going to be paranoid that the system has failed and I simply won’t know. This is a bit of tech which, to me, is utterly pointless and baffling.

The car won’t lock if a door is “open”. The fact that the car locks, indicators flash etc means it is secure. If you try to open the boot without your key being in range it simply won’t open.  

I have found a way around this issue by buying a key signal blocker wallet off Amazon (got 2 for £7.99). Once I'm out of the car, I put my key in the wallet which stops the car detecting the signal of the key, thus being able to check that the boot is locked. Hope this helps
