Filling Up With Fuel ; So Who Amongst You . . .

Not so much anymore, but thats because my car doesn't have a key...

Keyless entry and all tha...

P.s I am aware there is a key within the fob or half key what ever you want to call it.

Try the boot trick, throw it in the boot, shut boot, see what happens!

Always lock it, but get out shut door, press button twice!

Although new zetec s doesn't have entry, only start button, have to get used to a fob again!

isn't one of the main advantages of owning a Mk.7 that you can simply leave the key in the ignition whilst filling up?

Dear Frank Spencer,

Ford spent millions of pounds and years of hard work developing sophisticated security systems for todays car. Included in the price you paid for your car was a Thatcham approved alarm and immobiliser. Ford also provided you with a double-locking facility on your doors. So why then would one of the main advantages of owning a mk7 be the ability to leave your key in the ignition whilst leaving the car unattended?

I've just read a thread re: how to drive at 30mph without an alarm coming on when not wearing a seatbelt, and now someone wants to leave the keys in the ignition! So on behalf of everyone who pays car insurance, may I take this opportunity to say "NO WONDER OUR !Removed! INSURANCE PREMIUMS KEEP RISING WHEN THERE ARE IDIOTS LIKE YOU AROUND".

Hope that helps with your dilemma.

Very well put sparticus5! No wonder they were asking over £600 2 insure my tiny ka! >:0

Couldn't agree more.

why take the risk? just put the key in your pocket, also comes as second nature to me to do that, get out car, take key out and with you

Just found one of these on ebay I'm not bothered, I trust it, but for those what don't like ;)

you should ALWAYS turn your engine off before refueling, something to do with why you should also never use a mobile phone.

The capless design is nice yes, but the main thing is the filler neck, which will only allow you to put the correct fuel in your car.

Exactly! Its not exactly much effort to lock/unlock a car.

Totally agree with above. Leaving keys in car is a end of a bell idea. Would you leave £13K in a bag with tenners poking out on the forecourt?

There is also another problem;

A year or two back went to fill up and one of the pumps was cordoned off and looked like a HGV had clipped it. When I went to pay the attendent said a yummy mummy had parked up leaving key in car and car in gear. Little Johnny had crawled forward sat in drivers seat and turned the key. Car lurched forward and yanked the pump over via the hose that was still in the car......

i normally take the keys out and fill up, car is still unlocked at this point but as i walk away from car i lock it...

While i was inside the shop, ive had someone walk to my car and try and open the door of my car... so i lef tthe queue and confronted him, his words were "sorry went to wrong car"

Not being funny, but my car stands out a bit compared to others.....

So leaving keys in the ignition is very frank spencer like.

So I always lock my car as soon as I get out of it.

I do the same. If I'm cleaning my car and need to get some more water inside, I literally remove the keys and lock it to get water that's ten metres away. You can never be too cautious, not in a world of thieves and insurance companies with their fine print.

It's definitely a habit thing, and a good habit to get into IMHO.
