Went for a job interview,

i tried to research company before i went, but found nothing.

During the interview the words "Kirby" came up.

I came home and looked up the old Kirby hoovers and searched the companies name with this, and all i keep getting up is... harrassing sales persons.... with a particular scam (ive removed details atm) i.e.

Thursday afternoon, there was a guy in his early 20's knocking on all the doors in Trowell, with the aim of giving each household a ticket, advertising the chance to win a new Nissan Micra, or £6k cash.

Now, being of the "theres no such thing as a free lunch" person, I asked where was the catch, he said there was no catch, just that if you won anything, and that there were other prizes up for grabs, you tell all your friends and neighbours, adding that they were a new electrical company, just starting up in *location*, (despite it being a Lincoln phone number *number* on the ticket) and that this was their way of spreading the word. The ticket has *company name* on it.

Anyway, I refused, but he triply assured me that there were absolutely no catches, and they were not trying to sell me something, so I took the ticket, and gave my mobile number as requested, "so we can contact you if you win". I thought no more of it until 24 hours later, when I got a call.

"Hello Mr Strong, just calling to say your ticket has been entered into the draw, and guess what, you've been lucky! Your ticket number has come up, and you have been awarded a free shampoo for all of your carpets"

At that point I told them exactly what I thought of them, and requested they remove my details from their database.

I was in the past, a little more trusting, and accepted one of these "free" carpet cleaning "prizes" and basically they are THEE most high pressure salesmen, trying to get you to buy an astonishingly high priced cleaner system, that makes Dyson seem like Tesco value range.

Dont give them your details if you are contacted, its a waste of time!

I was born well after the initial kirby vacuum scam....

Anyone Help?

2nd interview tomorrow and im not sure wether to attend?

Id say its worth attending just to see if its the same lot...you could always turn the job down saying you have a better offer etc. Been in sales and it aint worth the hassle!

dont bother... did it years ago and you have to be able to sell your mother, cat and the dog to be sucessful at it... i would imagine the hovvers are well over 2k as they were over 1k 15 years ago!

crap.. if one came to my door i would tell them to quit while they can

cheers, i realise i posted really late, so decided not to go anyway. Its not in my nature to hard sell to old people, and from what i was told, thats how it was done before.

annoying really, only job i found so far... haha

in the past when i was out of work i tried agencies... they do all the hard work for you.

Also temp agencies always gave me varied work, one was collecting hire cars from peoples driveways 3 am in the morning.. kinda weird collecting keys that the customer left on top of car tyres and driving a car out of someones driveway at that time of the morning.. we did that every night and it was good fun... also washing cars at 3am was weird.

But then had crappy factory work so not all brilliant work, but pays the bills!

I did a lot of driving agency work.

There are loads of agencies about, you just need to contact them.. helps until you get the perfect job.

Kirby, that takes me back. I went for an interview 30 years ago as they were advertising it as selling Turbo's. I was interviewed by some spotty wide boy who put me right off.

My company just recently went through a re-organisation (400 managers made redundant). As my role had gone I had to compete for one of the few remaining roles (Im an Accountant) I put my CV on monster.com, jobsite.co.uk and reed.co.uk. I received loads of emails from people wanting to help improve my CV etc, but I was also contacted by a company directly within a few days of putting the CV up. However a couple of days after I had an interview with them, I landed a job where I am as a Project Accountant. So I guess I am saying, its worth putting your CV on the internet.
