How Noticeable Would A Tyre Profile Increase Be?

Featured Replies

Just out of curiosity: I have 15" alloys with 195/50 R15 tyres but I have a chance to get some 16" alloys with 195/45 R16 wheels and tyres. The details of each tyre are as follows:

15" = sidewall height 97mm, overall diameter 575mm

16" = sidewall height 87mm, overall diameter 581mm

Only a 10mm sidewall height difference between the two profiles, I'm wondering if such a small difference would be negligible or would I be able to feel it? Would there be any other difference in feel e.g. car feeling more sluggish with the bigger wheels or would it remain 'nippy' and agile around town?

Thank you.

who cares :D your car will look much cooler on 16" B)

…you might feel the bumps a little more with the lower 45 profile but other than that I doubt there would be much noticeable difference.

Overall Diameter difference is 0.59cm.

Rolling Radius difference is 1.85cm.

Thats probably as close as you are going to get.

Heres a link to a tyre calculator, incase you want to try out some other size changes.

As already said, the ride may feel a little more harsh, but i doubt you'll notice much else

Yeah, I think the 16" should be okay then...I've just been worrying about making the right wheel choice on my car. I ordered it without test driving and then was a bit anxious that the ride on the Titanium may be too harsh but I finally went and drove one a few days back and was surprised at how good the damping on the car was.
