Back-Rests Problem

Hello,

I have an MOT this week and have realised that both sides of my rear seat back-rest will not lock into their catches, and hence will not stay upright if you pull them forward or break hard.

I'm pretty sure that will be an MOT failure.

The catch releases in the boot seem to operate ok and if i press an object (a pen) into the locking mechanism when they are in the open position they lock correctly.

But the back rests just don't lock in even if i press on them, it's almost as if something is slightly out of alignment, but i can't figure out what.

Does anyone have any ideas? My MOT is on Thursday.
