Nazim Posted April 24, 2011 Share Posted April 24, 2011 Hello All I have a 2006 Ford Focus automatic, 1.6. Been 6 days at the garage as it has trouble starting first time. They put in a new starter, new battery. Drove back home, took a break, tried to start it and no go. I have to try 5 or 6 times before it eventually starts. Dont know what to do anymore and I really dont want to go back to the garage as they are simply lazy bunch of twits! The car drives very nicely with no erratice reving up/ down. Accelerates as it should, sounds good, all equipment works great. 10 minutes ago I tried again and would not start after 5 tries. Stopped trying for a minute, tried again and started first time. It is obvious the garage did not fix the problem, and are obviously incompetent as you can visit Youtube and find out how to test a starter motor, and a battery. Is this a Ford Main Dealers garage you went to? If so I'd be wanting my money back in relation to them fitting new parts that where obviously not the problem...........six days just to fit a starter motor and battery... ridiculous.How much time have they billed you for ? I'd want that back as well. In this country we have what is called the "Sale of Goods Act" it is protection for consumers who have been sold products or services that do not deliver what they profess to. This act is enforced through the "Trading Standards Office" in that if a company provides incompetent or deliberately substandard products or services ......well the Trading Standards people can make their life hell You don't say if it is petrol or TDCi? How long you have had the car, do you know if it's had a recent service, what miles it has covered. It could be all manner of things causing the problems your having, but I would be thinking along the lines of a fuelling or ignition problem. And look at low cost option possible solutions first, starting with fuel and air filters if you don't know when these were last changed. Because even if a new fuel or air filter does not solve the problem, like spark plugs and the like, they are low cost items that do need replacing at some time. You could try a fuel system cleaner the likes of THE ONE tested here Again even if that does not solve your issue, it will not harm to give the fuel system a good clean. Like I said previous all of the above products / parts are low cost items [in relation to the cost of starter motors and batteries]and beneficial to the workings of the car. Nazim Posted April 25, 2011 Author Share Posted April 25, 2011 Thanks for this!!! Its a petrol engine. The garage was not Ford and they are useless. I am not surprised its not the starter. When I picked it up yesterday, it also did not start. They took a (another) look under the car, did something and it started. They said that the sensor was noty set properly when the new starter was put in and that now all is OK. Obviously not as when got home, would not start first time. This morning, go figure, it started first time!!! Where I live its not exactly cold (25 degrees celcius!) but started first time. The air and fuel filter did where not changed for some time I think and the guy who sold it actually said they took them off, dusted them off and put them back so all was "grand". The fuel injectors were clogged but have been cleaned and should be OK. I will check the suggestions and take it to Ford as now I got a Engine light (the yellow one) that comes on (not blincking) so I guess it really does need to be checked by actal Ford mechanics and not some bozos. johnH Posted April 25, 2011 Share Posted April 25, 2011 sounds like a fuel issue, especially if your battery alternator and starter motor sound good. hopefully its not the fuel pump, can you get an idiot (i used my dad) to attempt to suck the fuel from the fuel tank using the fuel lines. if you get fuel your pump in the tank is fine (according to a mech i know) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Nazim Posted April 26, 2011 Author Share Posted April 26, 2011 Took it back to where I baught it and they say it may be a fuel issue, as in the "fuel come back"? Anyway, told them that enough is enough so I am going to get my money back in full. Next stop: buy a new car with warranty, dealership service. Sorry, but will stay well clear of Ford or any European cars. Stick with Japenese from now on. REally appreciate your help and patience!
