Injector Seal/bushes Problem

Featured Replies

Apologies if this has been covered before. I have an 2005 Fiesta 1.4 TDCi which has been so far a fantastic buy. Had from almost new (ex-demonstrator from Ford Jersey). It has started spotting diesel on to my drive, and, there is a smell of fumes inside the car when stationery on idle. My garage told me there is a problem with copper bolts/nuts/seal wher the injector gasket is. He said this was a Ford known problem and was subject of a Ford recall??? Anyone know about this, and if so, will Ford rectify under recall terms even though I'm out of warranty??? Thanks a lot if you can help.

Col..

Common fault on the 1.4 TDCI

You will need to change the copper washers under the injectors to stop the fumes

Don't know about the diesel leak

Backache of a job

Got a set sat next to me to do my son's

Common problem as stated. Diesel leak is from the injector seals, as when they fail, diesel leaks out (duh).

Easy problem to solve if you know what you're doing. Not recommended if you don't have some mechanics under your belt.

Biggest problem is you are dealing with dirty diesel engines, and the head is aluminium so if you don't methodically clean everything you will end up damaging the threads. Involves removing the camshaft cover/intake manifold.

Parts total about £2, which is the annoying part, as labour adds up to about £200 iirc.

I can do it for £150 including parts if you're near Birmingham. Need the car for 3/4hours.

Edit: Even though Ford rectified it with larger copper washers, it was never recalled.

Cheers guys. Took it to car clinic and they are going to charge me £250 to do the work. They say if they can't get the injectors out, it''l be very expensive.??? IS this true????

If they have said that, I'd be wary.

The injectors will be a pain to get out if you've left it ages, but nothing a bit of brute force won't solve. Mine were 'chuffing' for about 6 months, on 40k miles, and were baked in pretty bad with carbon.
