Squeeking Front Wheel

Featured Replies

Just curious ( think I posted here about this before) was going to take it to a garage today and see what was what...wasnt going back to the dealer because of...well..dealer rip off servicing work.

But would something liek a lightly squeeking wheel be covered by the dealer? as it was bought from new, about 14 months old.

Or is it considered wear and tear element.

Mine did this, but when I braked it stopped. So I Took the wheel off and cleaned all the dust off and it cured it (For now).

Not sure if yours is the same but worth a try.

  • 3 weeks later...

Assuming you have the mk 7, it was a ford service recall. Had the same problem on mine and it's the brake pads glazing, all they do is take the pads out and rub the surface down with emery cloth to remove the glaze then refit them. Seems to have cured mine (fingers crossed!)

two bulletins (not recall but covered under warranty) high pitched squeel corrosion round pad lugs or glaze.....low sounding drone or grinding noise driveshaft bearing. what mileage have you done in 14 months? did you get car new as i based my info on mk7, regards steve

you asked if ford would call it wear and tear...whats your mileage? also if the pads are worn away then yes but i suspect there will be loads of "meat" on em in which case no, not wear and tear. have a look at your pads before going to dealers you should be able to spy through wheels at an angle without taking them off(a torch may help) you are looking at the material between disc and metal brake pad backplate, hope this helps, steve

I'm almost certain this is what my Z-S is suffering from. 59 plate with just over 20,000 miles, and normally when the car is warm the drivers side wheel makes a high pitched squeaking noise, not frequent but most noticeable when crawling and turning to the right

Took the car in on Monday, where Ford "claimed" they had taken it out (which they had as I noted the milage) but couldn't spot any problems with the car, however the "squeaking" is getting more frequent

quote this tsb no, regards steve

To rectify the concern, all brake pad to brake caliper contact surfaces should be cleaned with brake cleaner and grease applied to ALL brake pad to brake caliper contact surfaces.

Service Instruction

Receiving Inspection

1. Verify the customers complaint.

2. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Fiesta 2008.5 Workshop Manual Section 100-02.

When the vehicle is raised off the ground, the front wheels will need to be free to rotate.

3. Attach a suitable torque wrench to the center hub nut.

Rotate the wheel clockwise at approximate 12 seconds per revolution. Measure the brake drag using the torque wrench after 5 revolutions of the wheel.

Repeat the step on the other vehicle side.

If the torque is less than 10 Nm, there is NO front brake dragging and this TSB is not applicable.

If the torque is higher than 10 Nm, go to next step.

Cleaning and greasing of the front brake pads

1. Remove the front brake pads. For additional information, refer to Fiesta 2008.5 Workshop Manual Section 206-03.

2. CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

Clean the brake pad to all brake caliper contact surfaces using a steel brush and brake cleaner.

3. Apply a thin film of grease to the contact surfaces of the brake pad fixing clamp.

4. CAUTION: Be careful not to get any grease on the pad lining surface.

• NOTE: No grease should be applied on brake caliper rubber parts (e.g. piston dust boot).

Apply a thin film of grease on the brake pad to all brake caliper contact surfaces.

5. Install the front brake pads. For additional information, refer to Fiesta 2008.5 Workshop Manual Section 206-03.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Depress the brake pedal.

Check the brake fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir.
