Fuel Gauge

Featured Replies

I've just driven 6 miles in my 2009 Focus CC-2 (2.0 TDCI) but the electronic fuel gauge suggested I'd driven 22 or so miles. Is this a known issue?

Its not a known "Issue" as such, but it depends entirely on your driving style, and if the car has yet adapted to your driving style. You can end up driving less miles (according to the computer) than you have done, exactly the same, or more. Its all dependant on how you drive it!

I believe that the range estimation is based on a combination of a sensor in the exhaust system, and a digital interpretation of the Fuel Sender Units input to how much fuel you have left. With a bit of trickery it somehow works out the miles you have left. After bashing the fuel tank with a transit bumper on a motorway moons ago, I drove only 1 mile down the road, and lost 22 miles of fuel!
