Upgrading The Door Speakers, With Keeping The Standard Head Unit

Featured Replies

ive got a fiesta flame 54 with standard headunit and i want to keep it.

the original speakers say 25W on them and ive found replacement speakers on ebay that are 35W will my standard head unit be able to power them without distoring when played at high volume? ive got tweeters running off my back speakers already?

also the original speakers just clip in with the wires. to replace them will i need to cut this clip off and just wire the speakers up without the clip?

what speakers should i replace with i found these 3way kenwood on ebay only £30 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330562890734&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

or should i go with 2way speakers

Hi

I dont think you will even notice the difference from 25w to 35w upgrade to 50w plus and make sure they are good speakers.

The speakers and stereo in the mk7 sound far superior but then they are mainly made of paper and that hardens or cracks with age.

The speakers you linked to are 75w RMS max. This just tells you the maximum power they can take without being torn apart. It tells you nothing about how loud they'll sound. That's given by the efficiency in dB/w, which at 87 is fairly low. For a standard headunit if you like loud music you should aim for speakers that are 91dB/w. Other than that they look like decent budget speakers.

How much can the standard head unit stand?

The head unit doesn't have a step-up transformer for the amp so it just runs at the bus voltage. This gives a theoretical maximum of around 35w into each speaker. However it might start distorting below that.

35w sounds not that bad...
