Running In

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My first visit since picking up my new Zetec 1.4 TDCi at the weekend.

Has anyone noticed if mpg improves with miles, I know there is supposedly no running in needed but wonder what others have found?

MPG is always a bone of contention compared to manufacturers figures, so far I am quite happy as getting 61mpg on my daily commuute which is a mix of A roads and the M1.

Thanks.

Yes definitely. On my 1.6 at brand new I was getting 50mpg - now I can get 62 xD

EDIT: May also be a combination of that and adjusting my driving style to a diesel.

I picked my 1.4tdci zetec up last week, i was getting ok mpg, over the last week its slowly getting better, my avarage just now is 55.4mpg

my mpg has gone from 28 to 30.9 but not sure if its because of running in or just coincidence.

It certainly does. I was quite vociferous when I got my Zetec S TDCI, and getting late 40's around town and Early 50's on a run. After 8,000 miles, and a 2 months of daily motorway runs, its picked up really well.

The best I have had (albeit a 40 mile round trip) is 67mpg, with around 60mpg regularly achieved. Heavy footed on country roads, and you'll still get early 50's.
