I've Over Filled My Oil A Bit

Featured Replies

Had an oil warning light come on and thought it was the oil low light. Didn't have time to stop and let the car stand so put just under a litre of oil in.

Having just checked the level its about 3/4 inch over the max level.

Is this going to cause a problem?

My car is 1.6tdci 2010

Drain some out you could possibly do some damage to the engine.

I once over fill the engine with oil on a rover and i thought i had blown it after it forced the oil passed the rings and burned it in the exhust system , scary moment.

If it's only a bit ... take off the oil-filter and empty it, then put it back.

Check the level again.

I did it to a old MK2 Astra, lots of smoke going down the by-pass but no damage. My mate did it to his escort and blew the engine.

I would deff get it emptied before you drive it

On my previous car I had a problem with oil > overheating> ring seals > exhaust goes smoky > mot fail so thats the reason I have my new Fiesta :D

Don't have the gear to get to the sump plug so looks like I will need to take it into a garage. Bugger

Do as mentioned above, take oil filter off & drain it

Or stick a piece of tube down and suck it yourself. <_<

Lol.

I do 2000 miles a month so decided to get an straight oil change instead. I don't intend to make the same mistake again so won't get a pump - but did look a good alternative.
