Engine Change

Featured Replies

Well, i have had my mk5 zetec s for a few months now, slowly prepping it for the track. next week all the arches are ebing widened and the paint is getting touched up. interior is almost finished. all i need now is a new engine.....so, i really want the focus zetec 2.0l engine and gear box, is this a good idea and how do i go about finding/fitting? and info is grateful. or any suggestions on an easy or common conversion.

thanks guys and girls.....

i not sure about that, would involve alot of work round the engine bay... but i do know for sure that the puma engine is a direct fit to mk 4 & 5 fiesta's and the engine block is identical and that is a 1.7 so have a look into that, all you would need then is the gearbox sorting... many puma's lying about for scrap... my mate has done it in his and it flies along now

Hi,

I owned a mk4 1.25 Fez a few years ago and I did the Puma 1.7 conversion, I changed the engine and gearbox and it did fly. I also enquired about the 2.0 Focus engine but when I was told about the additional mechanical work i.e. strengthening the engne bay, uprating drive shafts etc it just put me off.

Just to let you know if you do manage to do a 2.0L conversion try and get hold of a Puma LSD gear box as you will no doubt be getting loads of wheel spin from a 2.0L engine epecially if you floor the car.

Good luck!

P.S. have a look at my gallery pics of my mk4 Fez, just so you're aware Puma Build did the conversion but I sourced the engine.

thanks for both replies, i reckont the 1.7 conversion is the one ill do after doing abit more research. i dont want to do do it myself as my dfad and i simply dont have the time, can you recommend any particular garages or is it definately a DIY job? with the 1.7 i think ill map it full exhaust system just basic tuning to start. whats the chances of supercharging them? easy or a pain?

thanks again

and how hard are fitting throttle bodies to the 1.7? all this info will be put to good use, i plan to have this done by the end of the summer.

cheers guys

there quite a few companies that will do it for you, i not sure locally for you though.... bitta googling and you will no worries

I recommend Puma Build who are based in Birmingham, speak to Alan (owner) or Phil (the guy that works in the office), you can get their details from google
