Quick Question About Mpg And The Ecu

Featured Replies

I checked the average MPG this morning and my car reckons it's doing around 32MPG at the moment :( - 2010 1.4 auto mostly doing short daily journeys (5-10 miles) with lots of commuting traffic, junctions, etc. Anyone else have the 1.4 auto? Is my MPG about right? Official MPG figures are into the low 40s but of course I'm not really doing the "ideal" sort of driving.

The car is only about 6 months old and I've only had it a couple of weeks so I reset the MPG counter but is it also possible to reset the ECU? Does the Fiesta have a "learning" ECU? (just in case the previous owner thrashed the engine so it's running fat at the moment).

Unfortunately you've got everything going against you - short journeys mean engine never gets warm and will be running rich - auto will also drink fuel compared to manual.
