06 Ford Focus 1.8 Tdci Are They Any Good?

Hi, ive just sold my bmw 330ci sport and im just wondering if the 1.8 tdci engine is any good? im after something reliable and economical, ive heard loads of conflicting stories about this engine so im really confused, some people say its rubbish and unreliable and some say its the best one to go for?!?!?!? can any one help clear this up for me as im going to be looking at cars next week as in desperate need for one!

    I have had a 1.8 tdci for a year now and it's great, the only thing to watch out for is the egr valve, needs a good clean now and again to keep it running smooth,

    I agree with Lee,

    My father has had his focus mk2 with the 1.8tdci engine for a couple of years now. Its just short of 70k miles and never missed a beat. His car normally returns 50mpg, and from what he has said its quite alot on long motorway journeys.

    The problem with reading on forums about cars is you never hear much good, only the bad bits. Given how many of them are on the roads today, i would say they are quite reliably. I must admit i dont read alot on here about them tbh.
