Speedometer Wobble :o

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I just changed wishbones, brake pads and discs on my Fiesta Si '95 and unfortunately the car now seems to have a bit of a speedo problem. Basically driving around town the speedo needle wobbles massively (say plus or minus 5mph) - quite disconcerting. Does this indicate I've done something wrong? Pretty sure it didn't do this before....

Many Thanks!

Sam

Just a thought mate, when changing the discs were you careful not to knock your wheel speed sensors? AFAIK it should be electronic on your car, although I don't know exactly when Ford switched over to this and ditched speedo cables.

Might be worth looking into, they look like little cogs which turn with the wheel, and close to it is a sensor with some wiring, if you accidently damaged one when changing the discs then it's an easy fix.

Just my thought anyway, hopefully someone more experienced will be able to help a little more!

Hi Danny,

Thanks - that seems likely. I'll have a dig through the Haynes when I get home and locate them. The problem was gone when I drove it just now, which is wierd. Anyway, I guess it's a fair indication I haven't done anything massively catastrophic...

No problem mate, glad I helped a little :)

Let us know if you can spot anything, if it's working again like you said it's not a major issue.

I was experiencing some really annoying grinding from my steering column the other evening, and then the next day it had gone! You can't beat intermitent problems :D lol.
