Revcounter Needle

Featured Replies

Hello folks,

We have just bought a 2001 Ford Fiesta 1.25 Freestyle. It seems to be in very good nick and we are overall happy with it, but I have spotted something odd and I was wondering if anyone might have any ideas.

I spotted the revcounter didn't appear to be working, but on stopping, the needle fell and I then realised it is actually sitting on the wrong side of the stop. In other words it can't get past zero. Does anyone have any ideas on how this might have happened, and can I easily rectify it?

Many thanks in advance for any replies.

Very easy to fix. There should be a line of screws on the upper side of dial surround, undo these and lift the unit out, undoing screws as u find em. Disconnect unit. Plastic cover should just b clipped in place. Lift off needle (using 2 spoons to prise it if stiff), put it back in place, replace all.....

Have fun! ;)

@Danny - Thanks mate you've taught me something new too :D I have an insect which has got caught under the glass (or so it appears) so will take it apart to get rid of it. It's a downright annoyance and I can't deal with it anymore lol.

Haha, cool. Just make sure you don't remove any needles you don't have to by mistake.... Putting em back slightly wrong can mean ur speedo, or petrol reading wrong. :\

My old car (same as yours) once did that when the battery went flat, on trying to start it all the needles went mad and the rev counter ended up on the wrong side. After a battery charge though, simply turning the ignition on fixed it. If you haven't already fixed it, try going into the diagnostic mode by holding the trip counter reset button while turning the ignition on (needs to be held for a few seconds). One of the first tests is gauges, this may be enough to fix it.
