Missing Bolts!

Featured Replies

Hi - I have just recently bought a 2010 Fiesta Edge. While having a look under the bonnet today I noticed 3 threaded 'holes' in the top of the valve cover. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what these 'holes' are for. It looks to me as if they should have bolts in them. I would go back to the garage I bought the car from but unfortunately its about 200 miles away. Any information would be appreciated.

I'd be inclined to say it's where you attach the lifting hook for the engine. I'm not entirely sure on your particular car but some engines have a hook on the camshaft cover, or like you describe there's threaded holes where a manufacturers tool would go so the engine can be supported via an engine hoist.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, which I might be it's just an idea :D

im not sure these would be mounted to the cam cover..

Are the threaded parts made of brass? im sure they are for clips or something along those lines - my mk1 focus was exactly the same. nothing to worry about.

possibly for an engine cover

Thanks for the helpful replies guys. The threaded parts are are made of brass. I am just a bit concerned that there is a cover or something missing from the top of the engine. Where is the air filter on the new style Fiesta Edge.

The air filter is in the bottom right hand side, by the light in the box secured by four torx screws. The pollen filter is in the car, behind the panel next to the clutch.

I've just looked at my engine and it looks like I've got something really similar. It's only one threaded brass hole on the top of the camshaft cover. It looks very much like there's a clip which should go in there to hold the HT leads, but I really don't know. It's the same on my mum's boyfriends 2001 Focus estate, there's a clip which goes in there so the HT leads can be clipped into place away from the heat etc I suppose.

@Stef123: You're right it wouldn't be for an engine hoist, thinking about it I remember taking an engine out of a V6 Mondeo and the hook was attached directly to the cylinder head - obviously because it's got to be strong to take the weight of the engine.
