i got my car about 6 months ago, the carpet wasn't quite fitting to the door trim, so i had a look at it yesterday and saw this :o

any idea why this has been done??

Looks like soundproofing to me, should see the same if you look under the carpet in the boot.

it is soundproofing thats been cut away, but i'm asking, why's it has been cut out, there's 3 bolt holes, is there anything on the otherside which you would need to get to these bolts??

the painted substance is the vibration (sound) dampening, the white foam is padding for the carpet.

all normal except for the bolt holes and the missing foam. something was obviously there aftermarket.

my bet is that the car was a learner one and had dual controls. sometimes they can't fit a strong enough mount under the passenger side of the dash so it has to be bolted under the carpet on the floorpan...

why not use proper carpet underlay from BnQ or carpetright, get some sample squares if you can

might have to double it up to get the right thickness

i've seen some car underlay on ebay, might give that a go.

Ask driving instructor with a Fiesta how dual controls fitted, for piece of mind. I,d get those sealed good and proper before adding padding on top. You dont want to risk water leakage. And treat the edge of drill hole with a anti rust agent 1st. Winters coming, salt, snow, rain, freezing temps. You dont want water ingress this time of year.

Spot on. We had a titanium TDCi come in with Dual Controls when I was at Arnold Clark and it was left in a similar way.

On the subject of the one in the boot, it's over the exhaust, and has anyone noticed after a long drive it gets hot, mine was home from London!

Who is the previous owner listed in the logbook, is it fleet? Hitachi Capital or Robinsons are 2 to look out for.

The clue if its either of those is the reg prefix will be F- eg FE10, FL09 etc.

aye, FP58 is the prefix, so you got it in 1

they're good little cars, robinsons are apparently really picky with fines on returns so instructors are paranoid the cars aren't damaged, always serviced to spec, and kept clean and tidy.
