Mk7 Fiesta 1.25 Mpg ?

Featured Replies

hi

my car mpg does not seem too good the trip computer says it gets 42.5 mpg but im not sure its getting that tbh and with £15 of petrol put in it gave me a extra 95 miles on the gauge ontop of what was left ?

is this normal miles to the money put in or should i maybe look at taking it back to the dealer to see if they can do something with the ecu or something ?

also the car only has 900 miles on it so could it just need more running in to get better mpg ?

thanks.

Work out the genuine MPG by brimming it, running it for 100 miles, then brimming it again and seeing how many gallons it takes to brim it again.

then divide 100 by the number of gallons to get your miles per gallon average.

If you're getting any more than 40 mpg (i.e. using 2.5 gallons to go 100 miles) you're doing very well for a 1.25 engine.

Incidentally, 2.5 gallons is 11.35 litres or £15.53 at 136.9ppl

.....But as your guage reckons your getting 95 miles out of £15, i'd say you're doing quite well.

That MPG sounds good to me. Smaller engines are counter-productive in a sense, they have to work harder when it comes to going uphill so some of that efficiency is lost, hence they are recommended for town driving.

Wish my 1.25 got over 40 like that ha.

i seem to get mid to early 30's, but if i was on a non stop motorway session it comes out about 40 odd.. MPG really depends upon a) your driving style, B) the fuel your putting in c) tire pressure and d) weight of the car (i.e. spare wheel, luggage etc), well at least all the factors under your control, so just check your tires and what not if you think its under-performing, and petrol from supermarkets dont do much good either tbh... i seem to get the best from shells fuel save, ultimate is a waste on small engines!

See that's strange on one tank of tesco fuel it managed 50mpg then on shell fuel save only 32 and on total it gets around 35 tesco is usually also around 35 but one tank for some reason managed 50 but it's never been over 40 since

Hi, I also have the 1.25 Fiesta Zetec and I reset the computer each time I fill up and I always get around 44/45mpg. I live in Aberdeen and work in Inverurie so a fair bit of it is dual carriageway driving and some is sitting in traffic ! The highest I have had is 47.6 but that didn't last long (must have been a fluke !!)

I changed from a Zetec S when my work moved out here thinking I would save money on fuel, but I think I could have been wrong !!!!

all good, but i re-iterate that it is a good idea to work out the true MPG using my formula above, rather than rely on the trip computer which can be inaccurate

I never fill it to the brim tho, so how would I know for sure ?

I also use Tesco fuel and put in Shell a couple of times and didn't notice any difference. I live just up the road from Tesco and I like getting my Clubcard points to spend (usually a free couple of bottles of wine!!!).
