Stupid Trip Computer Question

Featured Replies

I've had my Fiesta for few weeks now and this morning i got a warning alarm when the trip computer said 50 miles worth of petrol was left and the fuel light came on.

Is the 50 miles the trip computer says is left all there is or is there still say a gallon in the tank that it isn't taking into consideration ?

Its a stupid question but never had a car with a trip computer before and it got me wondering.

Thanks

50 miles is all thats left. No reserve fuel. Thats based on how you've been driving it. If you've got a heavy right foot back off a little and it will go up.

Basically it's how far you can go until you run out, assuming your driving style doesn't change (as it's based on recent fuel consumption). That said, as it seems with a lot of cars, you can get it to 0 and still keep going as there's some fuel left in the pipes and trip computers aren't that accurate. The lowest I've had mine is around 15 miles left, and after working out how much fuel was remaining this seemed like a pretty accurate figure.

It does (almost) exactly what it says on the tin :)

Basically its reminding you to fuel up as soon as poss.

I've had mine down to zero miles which has then fluctuated back up to 5 miles then down again.

Probably better to fuel up sooner rather than later.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated, I'll fill up tommorow.

I've driven mine to 0 and I had 1.5l left which would have got me another 20miles.
