Overheating Problem

Featured Replies

Good evening to you all....I need your help!!

During the last couple of days when driving to and from work the heater in my Fiesta has been blowing constantly hot, even when the dial is turned round to cold.

Tonight when i got home from work and parked up,the engine fan was on.The temp gauge was showing halfway.

Could it be a jiggered Thermostat or something more serious?

Thankyou

Paul.

Its most likely the heater control valve is stuck open.

Thankyou for your reply.

Is the heater control valve an easy fix?

Also would this cause the engine cooling fan to come on?

It is an easy fix on a KA and a Puma, and I assume it is as easy on the Fiesta. It couls also be causing your fan to come on as it will be restricting the circulation. Sometimes the HCV become brittle and collapse and may cause an air lock.

It is just as easy on the Fiesta (I am about to do the one on my daughters car very soon), it is easily accessible, being located in the centre on the car just in front of the bulkhead - before you start pulling the pipes off, just ensure that you unplug the lead going into it.

Just to be 101% sure that this is the offending item - try unplugging the lead on the heater valve then turn the engine on, move the heater control to cold and it should theoretically still blow warm/hot air.

It is a quick and easy fix, but ensure that you buy a quality replacement - either an OE Ford part or a guaranteed OE equivalent...Why spend a tenner on a cheapo one that may not be up to it when for twenty-twenty five quid you will get a warranted item!

Good Luck

Took the car in the garage today and the water pump is knackered (had water leak for a few weeks now) and the heater control valve appears to be sticking.

I have a similar problem with my Fiesta 1.25 Zetec. It's staying warm and isn't overheating on either town trips or longer motorway miles. Like your car my heater control doesn't make any difference to the temperature of the actual air blowing into the cabin. Sister's boyfriend has a Zetec S (slightly older than my car) and his heater control valve is faulty too.

During the winter this isn't such a problem, so due to money issues I'm replacing mine in a few weeks time. I think they're about £20 on eBay and are an easy fix, it's located in the bulkhead near the windscreen wiper motor. I will just make sure to bleed my coolant system and top up if required as I may lose some coolant while replacing the item.
