This weekend I hope to install my single-DIN stereo, which will have my iPod sat tucked away in the glovebox.

Obviously I need to feed a cable from the rear of the stereo into the glovebox, and this will require drilling a small hole in the glovebox to feed this cable through.

To do this, I will need to remove the glovebox - but before I do so I'd like to check what could be an important detail.

When I open the glovebox to reveal the 7 torx-bolts I also see the switch to remove the passengar airbag (see picture)

Will the glovebox just slide over this airbag switch as I remove it, OR

Does it just come out anyway as part of the whole glovebox assembly, OR

Do I need to do anything to the switch first like remove the surround? (I tried this but it didn't seem to want to move, and I didn't want to try too hard in case I damaged what I suspect to be a very important part)

So to all of you who've removed your glovebox, for whatever reason, did your Focus have this airbag switch? And what did you do?

i have removed my glovebox many times,

i dont have this switch but i do have the aux socket in the top of the glove box,

and when i remove the glove box it has enough excess cable to allow the glovebox slide out of place,

then at the rear of the soket/switch is a connector that simply slides out of place,

i assume the switch will be the same, and allow the glovebox to slide out then have a pug at the rear that just pulls out from the switch,

when putting the glove box back in dont forget to push in the small leg of it on the bottom left hand side, as the door wont close when its not in properly, and you wont realise that till all the screws are back in place,

im pointing to it for you mate,

Just one more thing - if I do disconnect the plug at the back of the passengar airbag switch, is there any risk that this will cause a problem - either setting it off, or making it not go if if it's ever required?

others may be able to advise better on tis one mate,

but my theroy is this:

the cables leading to the switch would be the power and the signal to the dash light,

so when the switch is in the off position, the power is not flowing through the switch, it is sending a signal to the dash

so if the switch is disconnected and the engine is off,

this would be the same as the switch being in the off position as the power cant flow ,

others may be able to advise better on tis one mate,

Sounds as though I should, at the very least, turn the airbag switch to 'off' before doing anything then.

Although my nervous side wants to wait for more information editor I do anything. I might take the glovebox out and have a look, without disconnecting anything - I may be able to do it with the cable in place anyway.
