Couple Of Questions About My Fiesta

Featured Replies

I bought a 2000 Fiesta and have two issues with it.

1) The engine makes a noise, which is more pronounced when having cold started and fades over time. But, the noise disappears when I press the clutch.

Is this something to worry about?

2) There is a noise coming the area of the front drivers side wheel. Like a rumbling noise. What could this be?

Thank you

Welcome to the forum. It may be an idea to introduce yourself if you intend to use the forum. You will find a lot of helpful people on here and you may well be able to provide some invaluable help as well.

Anyway, to your issues. The noise that disappears when you push the clutch pedal down will be the Clutch Release Bearing. Depending on how bad it is it could hold out for quite some time or it could sieze up or collapse at any time. Its probably best to get it sorted sooner rather than later, but you may as well get a complete clutch kit fitted at the same time.

The other noise could be a number of things, Wheel bearing, suspension mounts, anti roll bar bushes etc. Again, its probably worth getting a local garage you can trust to look at it before having a go at fixing stuff that may not be the cause.

Hopefully someone who has experienced the same will be along shortly.

Good luck

I agree with btmaldon on both of your points. Number 2 could also be a worn/noisy/cheap tyre.

Cheers

The car is 11 yrs old so will be noisier than newer ones.

My daughter has a 10 yr old Yaris which is noisy on first start up for a couple of seconds till the oil circulates, then its fine. Wear & tear. Does just sound like the clutch tho; and possible a wheel bearing on its way out, may just be dry and need some grease.

Oh, welcome

Thanks for everyone's input.

Update:

I was just driving home and knocking noises started emanating from the front of the car every time I went over a bump and sometimes for no reason at all. It was mainly coming from the same wheel which had been making a rumbling noise. But the noise seemed to be coming from all over the underside of the car. I am guessing it was travelling about due to parts moving around and bumping other bits and bobs.

Does this help identify what the fault could be?
