My New Drl's

Featured Replies

Some of you might remember that I installed DRL's in my Asian grill - however on 1 side a bulb (out of 6) stopped working. As a temp fix I taped over the other side to make it symmetrical but since then was looking for something new.

So this is what I came up with!

That looks ace!!

How'd you do it? Is it a kit or a custom piece of work of your own?

It's my own work. Got a Dremmel and cut apart the headlights, used high temp silicone to hold in place & put back together.

Now thats clever mate.... ;)

angel eyes... nice!! will be better see a darker pic though (hint) ;)

Yes more pics will be taken tonight!

Very nice, will look awesome at night.

:o wow!

...i'm just gonna sit here and wait for the nights pics :D ........

O I like these. Just like the BMWs.

Do you have HIDs or normal bulbs for the dipped? Wonder what it will look like with dipped on.

Great work. I wouldn't have the bottle to take apart the light units :)

Nice! i like it...

i was thinking some thing like this:

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys, unfortunately the night pics don't come out that great - I can either get a pic of the car with a white glow from headlights, or this:

I have Philips BlueVision as my dipped beam lights. However I have wired my DRLs up according to the EU legislation, on with ignition and off with dipped beam (they stay on with sidelights)

Nice to do something no one else would have! Well done!

Still a good picture! Your right tho, night time ones are near on impossible unless your some professional photographer.

Good going on staying legal! I didn't know that was the rule, when dipped are on they have to be off.

Looks smart. Quite elegant compared to others you see around. Top job.

They look really good, just like they were factory fitted!

Drl's don't have to be off , if that was the Case most Audi's and Merc's would be breaking the Law.

As long as real DRL's dim they are fine

I was following European UnionDirective 2008/89/EC which states:

On vehicles equipped with DRL, the light is automatically switched on when the engine is started. When it is dark the driver has to switch on the driving lights manually. In this case the DRL goes off automatically.

Even Halfords state:

Most DRLs automatically switch off when headlights are turned on. If yours don't, make sure you manually switch them off when it gets dark

I don't know how Audi's & Mercs are getting round this, I see they appear to dim when dipped beam is on.

My Drl's dip on side lights , they are also Angled and directed therefore they can not cause distraction to other drivers at night.

Audi and Merc's use the same type of system to reduce the brightness of the DRL to below the illumination of the dipped beam.

Your Angel eye's how ever would have to be switched to off on Dipped beam as they have no way to direct the beam emmited from them .

Audi's and Merc's are German, they don't need to abide by road laws :P

Lmao good point
