Mk1 Handbrake Cable

Featured Replies

Hello all

Got a mk1 focus with drum brakes, fitted a new handbrake cable yesterday and is about an inch too short. When the shoes are fitted the rear shoe is short an inch from being against its stop. Is there different lengths in the middle handbrake cable and is their different lengths on the 2 end bits. Its not a ford handbrake cable , its a first line one and never experienced this before.

Any help greatly appreciated

sounds like you got thr wrong size cheak with your supplyer

Hi,ytre did you put old and new cable side by side, also front cable has adjuster under handbrake/handle,regards.

Hi, as ccharlie said, the adjustment at the handbrake needs to be fully slack, also the rear shoes need to slack on the auto adjuster.

Thanks guys for all the info. Got a the right cable but Had to slacken shoes well off to get it sorted, the cable could do with being a inch longer.
