should i go ask my dealer ?

car only has 5500 miles

Isn't it just the noise of shafts in the gearbox spinning (a whirring kind of sound)? These would stop when you disconnect the power to it... Mine does it too and is certainly more noticeable when cold than when warmed up. There's also a similar whirring noise at around 1500rpm regardless of where the clutch is.

Yep get the dealer to sort it - it's still under warranty?

Also has the same noise so i'm very interesset in what you find out.

My wifes Fiesta 1.4 is new and only done about 250 miles

Fiestas of all ages seem to have a noticable gearbox whir in neutral. I really don't know why but this has been a feature since the first models with hydraulic clutches. (1995)
