Giving My Fiesta A Good Run ?

Featured Replies

hi

well i got my fiesta 6 months ago and now its got nearly 6000 miles on it and my mpg is around 35 mpg avg and feel it needs to be higher .

now at 6k do you think its run in or should i give it some to release some of the peformance ?

and is it safe to rev my car right to the redline ?

thanks.

Of course it's safe to run your car to the redline, that's what the red line and the rev limiter is there for. I wouldn't recommend driving everywhere with the revs in the red, but boost it up there every now and again if you like :D

I've heard a few people say they've seen their MPG raise till 15k miles tbh buddy.

only reved my car to 3500rpm as too chicken to go any more lol

My car is at past 50,000 miles and averages 35mpg with the majority being on the motorways - I wouldn't hold your breath.

New cars don't need running in - in fact pushing the car early in life can have a positive effect with seating piston rings. Give it some beans.

cool will rev it to 6000rpm a few time tomorrow when warm :)

I get 42mpg on my 1.6 doing 80 miles a day, 5 days a week.

Shell fuel is my bane, I get much better milage on Asda/Morrisons/Tesco

I assume the car you're talking about is the diesel that's in your profile? If so, 35mpg sounds way too low as the other figures quoted here are for petrols...

Well spotted Martyn.

nah its a 1.25 petrol nt a 1.4 diesel was getting one but got a 1.25 :)

ah thats more believable then! My 1.6 averages around 38mpg with a mix of driving, so although 35 may sound low if it's only driven around town then it's to be expected really.

My 1.4 averages 43.9 ish

I usually give mine a good going, upto 5,000rpm easy (looses power after that :P), 7500 miles since September and pulling in 52 average, with a trip that came back as 72 ;]

perfectly safe to rev you car to the limiter just make sure the engine is at full operating temperature !!!
