First Service

Featured Replies

Just had my mk7s first service done by hartwell ford and I think I might have been had because it cost me £215 now £35 was tax £65 parts and £109 for well labour I guess it doesn't actually say what that was for the check list from the mechanics was a mile long probably covers more than an mot but even so £215 just sounds a lot

That is very expensive for a 1st service, 2 dealers local to me are £149.99 & £169.

It's the first service I've ever seen that involved recording my tred depth checking my wheel balance headlight allignment all engine pipe work engine undertrained the list goes on

That does seem very expensive! I shopped around for my first service and ended up paying £105. £48 parts, £40 labour and £17 vat. I only had 3 things on my checklist though :/

Would have been nice if mine was that much and my checklist has more like 30 thinks on it

Suppose they're trying to justify the price then with some more tick boxes.

£35 for tax? I thought the diesel was £20 for 12 months? That aside, my first service was £169 so yours at £180 does seem a bit steep. They recorded my tread depths and brake pad wear (30% at the front ) but nothing else like you have mentioned.

Looking at their website the dearest service they seem to offer excluding the MOT is £169.99 (http://www.hartwell.co.uk/servicing-and-mot/?lnk=550). It may be worth checking with them to see what they actually billed you for? Also, the premier 'value' service says it's a 24 month thing implying it's the second year service not first.

I did see mention of £10 fees for a courtesy car, collection/delivery services etc, did you perhaps go for any of these? One of these plus the £170 service and £35 tax would add up to the price you quoted.

Just booked my first service at the dealer I bought the car from (Jennings), only £135. Not bad considering what others have been paying.
