X Reg Fiesta - Blowing Smoke From Rhs Engine Block

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I have a friend who has an X reg (I think MK4) Fiesta, he has a problem where from the Right hand side of the engine block (looking into the engine bay), along side the belt, it seems that there is a continuous blowing out of white smoke.

I can only think that a valve has gone kaput, but then I wouldnt expect it to be an exhaust gas coming out from there, when it should be going to the manifold, and out through the exhaust pipes...

Any idea's what might have gone awry on his car?

It could be the exhaust manifold or the gasket, had that on an old car a few years ago.

Is the car also idling a bit high?

Apparently not, but hes just advised me hes got the AA coming out, so will see if they back up my theory of gasket. I thought the exhaust manifold would have left straight out into a pipe, I didnt realise they could be seperated on the block...?

So, it was the "Core Fitting Plug" seems to have corroded and fallen out, just allow the fumes to just float out.

Does anyone know how easy it is to fit this plug?

And is there anyone in the Kent Area who would be willing to pop along and have a look at it with him?

If not, is there anyone out there with a guide, or capture of the Haynes manual that will tell you how to replace the Core Fitting Plug.

Thanks Stoney, now to get the part details from someone!

Sounds like a nuisance to fit!

Mr AA came out to him and plugged the hole with putty, so its set now, its just a case of getting the parts now for when it goes pop. Mr AA recons that his fix will last a few weeks (mileage dependant) so I might be able to help him fit the new one!
