Mk1 Focus 2.0Esp 2000 - Revs Sticking

Driving along and the clutch is engaged, lift off throttle and it stays at the same revs. if you knock the gearstick out of gear without dipping the clutch revd still stay reving, once you disengage he clutch the revs go bk to normal.

any ideas?
