Brand New Ford Fiesta Edge - Brake Problems

Featured Replies

I picked up my brand new 12 plate Ford Fiesta Edge 1.25 60 ps last week on 14th of March. The next day when I was driving it I could hear a strange gas/air sound coming from the car as I was breaking. I didnt pay much attention to it as I expected the ford to make different sounds to my old Peugeot. Ever since then I have had my radio on when driving, but yesterday I was driving without the radio and could hear that sound consistenly. Please help somebody I really don't know alot about cars :(

Mine does that when braking too, when I first got it I actually started to think well does it have regenerative braking or something, but there'd be no point lol.

Anyone else with 'sighing' brakes?

How long have you had your fiesta? I called the dealership today and I'm taking my car in this week, I really hope it's nothing serious :(

I wouldn't mind betting this sound is your air conditioning pump working. Turn the air conditioning off(yellow light will go out) Then no awful sounds.

My Aircon makes a right old racket, every so often at idle i'll hear like a click sound and the fan runs quite loud with the air con on (Makes it sound like the car is overheating...) Silly ford with their bad design! Nice and cold though

I know what you mean with the little groans the air con makes but this is the brakes - when u brake, with mine anyway, there's a long sigh until you come to a complete stop.

Not really bothered by that though it's happened since day one (over a year ago). I'm more annoyed by the rubbing noise I get when turning, which has now developed into happening when braking on a straight too. Grr. Will take it back for a third time and speak to the dealer manager about it in a couple of weeks when I'm off work. I might aswell of kept my old 2002 hyundai if i wanted to spend my time driving being worried and embarrassed of annoying noises, I bought a brand new car to avoid this.

Unfortunately the words "brand new" and "perfect" do not seem to be linked. Probably they will brake test your car, check for leaks and and also check for warped disks , if you think its the brakes.

They've had it up on the ramps already and said theres nothing wrong.

Let us know how you get on with your issue Monia

The Corsa D (Most recent shape) suffers from quite some noise from the brakes too due to the material the pads are made out of.. apparently they're quite a hard material and you get a similar noise from them.

Hey guys, I'm taking the car in tomorrow and I'll let you know how it goes, I did try turning off the air con but the noise is still there!

my brakes make the same noise as yours paul also sounds like the brakes are down to the metal but i taken the wheels off to check and the pads have plenty of wear in them, when there up to be changed next i may look into putting a better after market set of brakes on there.

I have the same problem of a rubbing noise with my 2009 Fiesta Titanium, especially when going round corners. Been back to Ford dealers 3 times, thinking something was wrong with the brakes, and been told every time there's nothing wrong.

Today it is in again and I received a phonecall this afternoon saying they have figured out what the problem is: the tyres! Has anybody been given the same advice: replace both (perfectly good) front tyres? A pretty expensive way of finding out if that is actually the problem. They explained the noise is caused by the protective bead moulded around the outside of the tyre rubbing on the wheel rim. Has anybody else been given that explanation?

I'd love to hear some comments about this.

Sure it isnt your servo?
