Mountune Cat-Back And Other Mods

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Been thinking about getting the mountune cat-back fitted with a view to getting the rest of the upgrade as and when I can afford it. Got a couple of questions though if anyone can help:

- Would the ZS diffuser need to be altered to accomodate the system?

- How loud is it? I don't want to sound like a boy racer all the time but a nice low rev growl and high rev thunder would be good.

- Is there any performance improvement from the cat-back alone?

On another note I have recently fitted a K&N panel filter and am chuffed with it. I always felt that at low revs the car felt restricted when you put your foot down, now it goes right through the range and does it so smoothly. It has also improved my MPG, at best before i was hitting 38-40 on motorway miles, now its 45-48 and its sitting about 38 for normal city driving. :D

Only downside is the improvement has made me more throttle happy and i'm getting 34 for kicking the bottom out of it.

What's this I hear about a fuel crisis??? :P

Every question you asked is Exacly what I also want to here :L an I also have a filter. Loving it!

I am loving the fez too, now more-so than ever thanks to the filter. The handling has always been good but now the performance is starting to match it.

Ill try and answer some of your questions

The cat back will give you a more free flowing exhaust system but without telling the cars ECU that you have changed it you only see a very minimal performance increase, if want to see some performance best thing to do is fit a induction kit and then look at replacing the exhaust manifold as it is known for keeping the power down and once that is done remap the ECU and you should see some good results

Cheers for the advice, had thought about the induction kit and remap, again with mountune (so I can keep my warranty), wasn't sure what order to do the mods in but i'm not sure they will mod the engine unless their exhaust system is already in place.

Have much have you mod'd yourself?

You won't get a right lot from a cat-back, some people swear blind you get good gains from them, but fact is the restriction is still there, you only removed some from downstream, so upstream is still restricted somewhat. As for noise, I can't see it being too loud looking at it, it's got a pretty decent sized box on it so it'd growl more than sound as if something had fallen off. I'd imagine it'd go on without cutting the stock bumper, though probably better if you did get the moulded one off them.

If you want performance, go with panel filter, new exhaust manifold, sport cat/decat and the exhaust. Basically the 155 upgrade minus camshafts. I wouldn't personally bother with induction kits, not my thing really. Saying that, the Mountune filter doesn't look half bad.

Does the K&N Element/Panel Filter affect any insurance or warranty?

Not sure about either being honest, can't see it affecting warranty as its just replacing the standard air filter with a better one, not actually changing anything to do with the engine as such.

With regards to insurance it is probably something I should check, I would argue that there is no actual performance increase in terms of bhp, it just allows the engine to breath more easily.

At the moment I think i'm aiming to improve the look and sound of the car than performance although the performance increase is the long term goal. I will defo have a look into the setup you've suggested above though. I turn 30 in a couple of month so think I might be asking the family to chip in for it B)

There is a video on Mountune's website about how it sounds like. Sounds awesome, especially the low end growl :D Just need to justify spending the best part of £2000 on my car and football team this summer to the misses, sure thats going to go down well

i havent modded much yet but i pick up my fiesta metal on monday so that one will get treated to some performance goodies.

The mountune kits are defo the best places to start because as you said the don't void the warranty

Nice one, the Metal looks mint, love the black alloys, have thought about wrapping mine in matt black. Is the Metal not mod'd to a point, I noticed that the exhaust is visible, is that just a standard ford one tho? Its 135bhp standard is it not?
