Refitting Light Unit After Changing Bulb

Featured Replies

I've just replaced the brake lights on my Mk6 (not a Mk 5, as I said earlier!) '02 Fiesta. It went smoothly enough, but the fun started when I reattached the light units. The right one was OK, but when I reattached the left unit I noticed there was a gap between the lower part of the unit and the car body.

The clips on one side of that light unit seemed very tight, so I think the problem is due to the bulbholder not sitting closely enough to the rest of the light unit. I separated and reclipped the bulbholder half a dozen times, but I still couldn't get the unit to sit flush against the car body. As far as I could see, the rubber seal was sited correctly and the edge of the bulbholder was lining up correctly.

The gap is around 5mm at the widest part. By the looks of it, any water that gets in will drain through a hole in the bodywork, but it's something I'd like to fix if I can. However, I can't say for sure it wasn't like that already (the clips looked like they had already been pretty tight).

Anyone seen similar before? Any suggestions for what I could try?

Cheers
