Removing The Rear Bumper Mk7 Titanium

I have a much loved MK7 Titanium and rather stupidly backed into an object and cracked my rear offside fog light. I have bought a replacement and went to fit it. Unfortunately I am unable to pull the plastic retainers for the wheel arch liners or the two underneath the car holding on the bumper. What is the best method? I was pulling really hard with my fingers and they don't seem to want to move.

Any hints and pointers would be much appreciated.

    I ended up using a fork. It's not ideal and I ruined one of the clips but it got the job done.

    The rear of the clips get clogged up with dirt so it might be worth hosing them down for a few minutes beforehand to soften it up.
