Fiesta Eudora E - Loose Throttle Pedal, High Revs

Featured Replies

My son has a 2000 Ford Fiesta 1.3 (Eudora E).

He's hit a problem whereby:

* the throttle pedal is a little loose in it's first part of travel

* the cable is directly connected to the throttle body just fine

* if the throttle pedal is pressed beyond the initial ~20% travel loose bit, the cable pulls the throttle open further & revs increase as expected

* when the throttle is released the revs reduce rather slowly, even though we can see the throttle lever has sprung back (though there still seems about a 10mm rotational gap and unsure if this is normal or not )

* whilst the loose travel could just be adjustment it's unclear how this happened, and the fact revs don't reduce even when cable released suggests some other issue

* no fault codes are showing on an OBD II scan

Any thoughts before he takes it to the garage. I'd probably investigate the throttle body, maybe there's some internal issue -- but I think we figured we'd get an expert to look. The haynes manual is fine for dismantling, but not really for troubleshooting ... I'm unclear what sensors, actuators may also be involved

Nigel.

Ok - an update.

Problem fixed (by son's friend). Turned to be some paper (from air filter) that had come loose and stuck in the throttle housing fouling the valve, also preventing it fully closing externally and making the pedal loose.

He's rather happy now ....
