Clutch 'squeal' Around Biting Point.

Featured Replies

Evening folks,

Hoping you can help to diagnose a problem with (I think) the clutch on my 2003 Fiesta.

Around the biting point in first gear and as I am pulling away there is a high pitch noise, somewhere between a squeal and a groan. Happens only really on cold mornings, and eventually subsides after a bit of driving and clutch use. Doesn't occur in when changing into any other gear or when stationary.

Tried looking into it with Google and YouTube searches but can't really seem to find anything similar to this. Probably not looking hard enough, but hey.

Any more information needed, let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Nathan

Hi

It could be the release bearing (grease gone dry)

or it could be the clutch plate is on its last legs.

How many miles has the car done and do you have any problems engaging gears and or pulling away.

Jamie

May very well be the clutch plate is worn and you are hitting the rivets.

Those contacting the metal plate will cause a godawful screech.

I think a clutch kit is in your near future.

Thanks for your replies, car's just gone over 90k this weekend, and has already had one clutch change after it began slipping at about 70-75k. No problems pulling away or engaging other gears. And I'm certainly no boy racer haha, I don't do screaming starts at every traffic lights, put it that way.
