Air Con

Featured Replies

I know it sounds daft because of the loverly summer we are having :),but I need to get my air con recharged, any recommendations on where to go, I know Kwik fit do it but bit scared of going there herd bad things about them and air con.

A local independent garage would be much better than kwik fit. Got mine done earlier in the year for 45 quid.

Totally agree, With Kwikfit the terms elbow and !Removed! come to mind.

Don't go to kwik-fit... they're absolutely useless at everything.

Go to an independent. It'll be cheaper and there's a better chance they'll know what they're doing. Although I always watch my mechanics at work because I never fully trust anybody - heard far too many horror stories.

kwik fit use a mnachine theres no involvement by the meachanic really all he does is out the make and model into the machine and connect the hoses the machine then drains the system does a pressure and leak test then refills with the exact amount of refridgeration gas and pag oil

Yeah, and then when you're not looking he sticks a screw driver through your pipes and tells you it failed the leak test, tells you that you can't have your money back and that they'll need to replace the pipes for £200+ before re-charging you the £50 for the aircon refill second time around.

Incompetent con-artists.

i have used them for recharges and they use the same machine any aircon specialist would use dont get me wrong i wouldnt let them touch my car for anything else but given the machine is fool proof ive never had any issue

Fair enough comments guys, thanks for the info.

i went to kwikfit a while back for a refill on my AC. Anyways after about half hour he comes back and says "sorry, the machine has cancelled the fill due to a big leak somewhere" then I braced myself and said "oh right how much do you want" he replies..."if we cant fill it for any reason or the temp doesnt drop by a certain amount then free"

so i was happy i got it for free, but miffed that i had a leak...which turned out to be the pipes failing and costing me around £300 to sort in total...new condenser, compressor and pipes....all at dealer.
