Cleaned Intake And Iac And Now Stuck With A Problem

Featured Replies

Hello.

I wen't on about my yearly cleaning of my dad's Fiesta 1.3 Endura-E.

Now I've done this before and it's mind bending to me what have I done to screw up so much.

I removed IAC and cleaned it like I did few times before and also removed throttle and gave it a good clean.

I'm afraid I gave it a too good clean because after I did it I noticed a sign that says not to do so.

I know. stupid of me.

Well after I assembled it all started the and car I thought it's engine is going to pop right out.

It was idling like I held the gas pedal to the floor.

I re-checked everything and, besides cleaning throttle that I shouldn't have... I didn't found anything wrong.

I also noticed that my brakes are stiff which led me to believe it is getting air from somewhere thus not creating the vacuum it should and also making engine RPM go sky high.

I've been scouting the web for hours now and if google doesn't crash now it never will biggrin.png

If someone has some wise words on have I messed up and need a new intake valve or there could be something else.

Tomorrow I need to travel back to my dad for around 100miles and I don't know if it's safe to do it.

P.S. I took a car for a quick spin and noticed another thing. When I accelerate and then put it in neutral, but keep holding the clutch, the engine goes to what I think it is its idle speeds but kinda adds a fer RPM's every second or two. As soon as I release the clutch, RPM go trough the roof, pres it again it becomes steady, and so on...

I apologize for, maybe, writing as a lost child but right now I feel like that and I'm dead tired from trying to get it to function.

Have you double checked the gaskets? You have got air being drawn in somewhere.

The gasket on the air control valve may have split as it is very thin but also is there a large O-RING on the throttle body that should be replaced each time the body is removed?

last time i done the IAC valve and removed the throttle body on my 1.6 i had no problem re-using the gaskets as they were a silicone rubber type stuff.

Yes I know, but it sounds like it has been removed numerous times and may have had enough.

Quite possibly, I take it the gaskets are available separately?

Think so. They dont come with the after market valves but I think they do with the Ford ones.

Try spraying some wd40 around the intake area whilstthe car is running. If it effects the idle you know you have definately got an air seal problem. Check your vacuum hoses as well.

Quite right.

Replaced IAC and car is running smoothly now.

Sorry for bothering you.

I remember this one,

Glad you got it fixed mate, hope your dad didn't blow a gasket when he found out.

Because the problem was due to wear and tear not human error.
