What Mods For My Car?

Featured Replies

Firstly sorry for another one of these topics people, I know there are loads already with people asking the same question and there are plenty of mod guides scattered over the forums.

But what would you do to my car?

I have a load of the obvious bigger mods planned and priced up such as bigger alloy wheels, new head unit and a nice body kit. But as anyone who has been reading my threads to date will know, I have had a lot of trouble with my poor focus since buying it and a lot of the money saved up for the mod fund has had to go on various repairs instead. So bigger mods for now have had to be put on the back burner till I am back at work.

So for now I plan on doing any nice little touches that are cheap and easy enough to do myself but are effective and will class my car up a bit but I really don't know where to start.

Apart from some carbon wrapping to the head unit and gear stick surrounds and custom climate control knobs my car is completely stock so basically a blank canvas.

I want to change my foot-well lighting soon but not sure what colour would suit my black focus best.

Whats everyone think?

Any recommendations on some nice little mods would be greatly appreciated

Cheers guys :)

Would any of the little jobs I've done as per the list on my signature inspire you at all?

BTW, with a black car I'd go red for the lights.

Look at my thread (gc88s focus)

Im in the same boat.

I've just done LEDs in and out and footwell, all with pictures.

Yes mate been looking at your signature and pretty much all of it is inspiring lol so it's really hard to know what to start with. What would you recommend to a beginner starting his mods? Need something that's effective but hard to get wrong.

I know was thinking red would go good with black by proxy, but I'm a birmingham city fan and red is the colour of the enemy so don't think I could do it. Would blue LEDs look silly in a black car?

Looked at your thread mate and your cars looking tasty. Think the mtec cosmos blue's are coming soon, are they easy enough to install? Gotta get some mist washer jets too.

There's so many mods that can be made that's why I started this thread cause I've got no idea where to start and need some advice ;)

I personally prefer blue lights.

Small cosmetic mods like lights and door sills lift the look without going mad.

Pretty much all my mods are ones that are hopefully subtle and easily reversed if needed.

The clear fog light/red Cree Q5 bulb makes the rear look more even and replacing the indicator bulbs with silvertec type bulbs removes the orange blobs from the clear lenses and looks cleaner.

Start with the bulbs and work from there, that's how I went anyway.

Nice one mate blue it is. Am I likely to have the LED holders or whatever they are already in my foot-wells or will I have to install something? Where exactly do I look? Cheers for all your help btw on my various threads :)

Quite simple and very effective:

De-badged and twin reverse lights.

should be a grey socket above the clutch pedal on the drivers side and close to the centre console on the passenger side.

i have a guide in the list of guides below my posts, in the event that you need to retro fit them of fit rear footwell lighting to match the front.

Nice one mate definitely gonna get twin reverse lights, don't suppose you can give me a link to what I need on ebay? Save me searching when I'm not sure what I'm looking for. How do I install it?

Think I'm gonna de-badge at some point but think I might wait till I got some new bumpers

Is this what I'm looking for Lenny mate or will I have to do a retro fit?

Lenny has a guide up in the relevent section, if I remember correctly I added mk2 to it aswell later on in that thread.

You will need a LHD reverse light housing : http://www.ebay.co.u...=item27be136ff6

You will also need an extra plug to fit the extra bulb: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item27c8f340d1

then the obvious parts like wire, connector blocks, insulation, glue and a cutting tool (Dremil is best)

That's the type of bulb you need.

Will they fit straight in where my current bulbs are? See my photos I uploaded earlier.

  • Author

Indeed they will

Sweet! Ordered so hopefully I'll have them by Monday so I can fit them and upload some photos :)

Already read your guide mate and been thinking of doing it, I want to but not sure if It's too complicated for me lol. How do I go about fitting the LED around the ignition barrel?

its not beyond you mate,

if you can hook a dvd player up to a tv then you can perform this modification,

and the ignition ring is easy too.

just remove the screw from the ignition panel and slide the ignition ring in their then grip it on place by pushing the outer ring through to the inside ring to hold it in.

and if you have power in the footwell lights you can splice the ignition ring in to them instead of running the loom up to the interior light.

see the ignition ring in two sections

If a plonker like me can do it anyone can.

Hardest part is getting the screws back into the underside of the steering cowling.

Got a link to the ignition ring light?

Looks flash!
