As the title says:

Middle of dash near windscreen.

is it the sensor for auto-headlights maybe?

looks like a sensor for the climate control

that senses the temp in the car and if you set the air con to 24 degrees it will trip off when the sensor feels 24 degrees inside the car.

correct me if i`m wrong, but it`s the sensor for your auto climate controls.

I dunno, I have a whirring fan like sensor in the panel by my left knee (when driving) I thought that was for climate control?

I only know its there because I had to tie it off to stop it vibrating all the time!

A totally uneducated guess but for the central locking?

Nah. My fiesta doesn't have it but has central locking. My guess is an ambient light sensor for auto headlights.

It's the climate control sensor. Light senor is on back of rearview mirror & rain sensor on windscreen ;)

I had a feeling ol' Nath might know

Definitely automatic climate control sensor.

All the mk2 focus have the location for this on the dash but only ones with auto cc have the sensor bit.

As most have said, it is related to the climate control.

It contains a photo-diode that measures the intensity of the sunlight and adjusts the climate temperature output accordingly.
