After more investigation on a nearly inaccessible top end I have found my daughters car is leaking diesel from somewhere around the second injector area [ from drivers side ] , I have cleaned the area around all of the injectors and every time we start the engine it starts to pool diesel near the glow plug area although we can see no leak or drip, the unions all seem dry as do the bleed offs. I am baffled and also can't believe how restrictive the system is.

Had ours to a diesel specialist and it was some hoses on the back of the engine under the airbox. Apparently it's a comment fault as the hoses get hot and become brittle over time eventually fracturing.

Cannot remember the specific name of the parts but it is what returns unused fuel that the injectors don't inject (if that makes sense). Think they're called 'leak off' or return lines or something. Will try an dig out receipt and tell you approx. cost if it is of course the same fault.

Other common fault is leaking injectors but you can hear these when the engine is running as they make a kind of whooshing noise.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply, I suspected the injector return leak off pipes but there is no brittleness with them and I can't find a pin hole, I am suspecting a leaking injector from some point but as yet can't locate it. I reckon I will have to invest in a camera scope to have a better look as they are now fairly cheap.

Thanks

To be honest, top end is relatively easy to get access to. Remove the air filter, then the filter housing and associated hoses and you should see everything more easily. Just need the correct size Torx bits.
